Android 5.0: Xperia Z3 running AOSP

This week, Google released the source code for Android 5.0, Lollipop, and as you can see in the video above, the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) version of Android 5.0 is already running on Xperia Z3, as well as Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z1. Check out the video for a preview of Android 5.0, and read on for details.

Android 5.0, is the latest version of Android and it comes with new features such as a more responsive UI, better control of the security of your device, new ways to control notifications, improved performance and more. Get the full list over at the Android developers web site.

For all you developers who are eager to run Android 5.0 on your unlocked Xperia device, we are working to provide you with the necessary binary files as soon as we can. Once you have them, these binaries can be used as a base for compiling your own custom version of Android, together with source code for AOSP device configuration from the Sonyxperiadev GitHub. Device configurations are already available for Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z2, these will be updated, and are coming soon for Xperia Z3.

    Why does anyone want this, it may be new, but it looks so simple and boring and also it just takes away the concept of sonys UI, it’s fair to say I wont be updating anytime soon

    I contacted the support because my Z3 plays the ringtones only on the speaker below display. I reckon that in last update the ringing of the top-speaker was turned off. I can’t understand why… The sound an volume is so bad since that. I would be very happy if, in update 5.0 Ringtones were played back on BOTH SPEAKERS at full volume. Without that the Z3 is not -that best phone- i’ve bought!

    A response would be nice!

      AOSP program offers a code base for custom projects
      Unless you are a developer you can flash official updates when they are released

    Seriously, Sony needs to just team up with Google and just let them run android on their phone. Forget trying to add any Sony software to it will maybe their walkman software but that’s it.
