Today we’re announcing a couple of useful Smart Extras™, namely the SmartWatch and the Smart Wireless Headset pro. And for all of you developers out there, we’ve created a brand new Smart Extension SDK, which enables you to create or adapt apps to work with these two new accessories!
SmartWatch is a micro display for Android™ smartphones, to wirelessly and discreetly access calls, messages and applications. Smart Wireless Headset pro is a Bluetooth™ stereo headset that also works as a standalone MP3 player and FM radio when apart from the phone.

SmartWatch is an 8mm thin, touch screen accessory that keeps you updated, and your hands free. It features an easy-to-use, ultra-responsive 128×128 pixels, 1.3” OLED touch display with 65536 colours, defined into 9 distinct touch areas in a 3×3 matrix. SmartWatch uses Bluetooth™ to communicate with the phone, and its dust and splash proof (supporting IP54).
SmartWatch is equipped with a vibrating unit, an accelerometer and a hardware button (not configurable for external applications). It also includes widgets for SMS, e-mail, call and music handling, Facebook, Twitter, time and date and more. On Android Market™, you will be able to download more apps over time, as apps can be adapted or created to work with SmartWatch through the Smart Extension SDK. Smart Wireless Headset pro is a stereo headset that delivers premium stereo sound. You can also use it as an ultra-convenient MP3 player (it has an SD card reader and a 2GB SD card included, and it can handle SD cards up to 32GB), a portable FM radio, or a remote that displays messages, caller names, media titles and more. You can even call directly from its recent call list, and have your SMSes read through the headphones via text to speech. Smart Wireless Headset pro uses Bluetooth 3.0 to communicate with the phone, and it features a two row display. You can read more in the Smart Wireless Headset pro white paper.
Both SmartWatch and Smart Wireless Headset pro are developed to work with most Android™ phones from Sony, Sony Ericsson and other select Android™ phone manufacturers. Updated note! The new version of LiveWare™ manager version is now available on Android Market. Please install this before installing the emulator in the SDK. If you have already installed the emulator, you will need to re-install it when you have installed the new version of LiveWare™ manager. The emulator will only work with LiveWare™ manager version 3.1.13 and onwards.

watch is dam super…..but IF U ADD front facing camera 2 watch….. it will be wonderful……from video charting with watch…..it is just a simple idea with very cheap cost ….

So, will the new SmartWatch be another victim of the contstant connectivity issues that plague the LiveView watch accessory?
I’ve gone through two of the LiveView watch accessories (I keep losing them!), but refuse to purchase a third because the connectivity issues are so common… I love the accessory, but at AU$80+, it’s simply not worth it when the accessory cannot maintain a consistent connection to the smartphone in use.

I haven’t had any connectivity issues with my LiveView and I’m using it the whole day.
And it really cost AU$80 at your location?
In Europe you can get it from +20€.

I’ve had constant connevtivity issues with both of the LiveView devices I’ve had, though admittedly they are far fewer after the most recent firmware update… Maybe 2-3 drop-outs a day now (though sometimes it is still more common).
Anyway, the Internet, including the official Sony Ericsson forums, is full of people complaining about this and I am aware of at least one third-party Android Market application written to address this (though as I pointed out in my review, it didn’t seem to do anything)…
As for the price, most stores sell them for AU$80-100 – I bought my most recent LiveView device for AU$70, but that was on special for a limited time. The fact that the LiveView devices are so cheap elsewhere in the world just adds salt to the wound…

SmartWatch and Smart Wireless Headset pro are going to be amazing accessories for user communication!
Is it possible to order hardware development Kits or sample product units in order to enable the use of SDK for software development with hardware units to proceed with tests? …. or is it necessary to wait for final product release and use only the SDK emulator until then?

Thanks for your question. The emulator included in the kit will work for most test cases until the actual hardware is out on the market.
