Last week we made an Ice Cream Sandwich alpha ROM available for unlocked Xperia™ phones. The response we got was overwhelming, and we want to say a big thank you for all your great feedback and the huge interest shown! We will look through all the comments we received in the survey, on the blog post and on the video, and incorporate the input into our planning of future software and product releases. We have now also made the open source archive for the Ice Cream Sandwich alpha ROM available. In addition, the sensor HAL will also be available as open source soon.
Even though we were expecting some reactions on the Ice Cream Sandwich alpha ROM release, we did not expect such an amount of great and constructive feedback. Some of the things we have received comments on are actually already planned for coming releases (keep in mind this was only an alpha). Other things will be up for consideration and prioritisation, based on parameters such as relevance, usability, workload, resources and timing.
At this point, it’s too early to go into details about what will be included or not in future software releases, but we can share some information about the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich software release:
Open source archive available now
As the headline says, we have made the open source archive for the Ice Cream Sandwich alpha ROM available. Moreover, we will also publish the sensor HAL as open source. This means you will be able to get access to sensors such as the proximity sensor, the compass and so on, through the lower software layers. This file will also be published in our open source archive.
Keep up all the good work devs!

We are glad to provide feedback. Just hope some of the feature which most of the community raised would be implemented such as camera compression etc.

Hello, please transfer the SE developers:
1. Camera – big bad photo compression (compression option to add: very / little)
2. Automatic Light Sensor Xperia Ray does not work OK – regulation is minimal
3. Flash is not an option for automatic flash video SE is:

Good work Sony Ericsson developers !!! If there exists a good relation between the customers and the development team, rest assured, you will come up. You guys have the potential . Publish, new features every two weeks,it will definitely help. Lot of my friends(techy friends) are talking about this development blog of yours and how this is different from other manufactures who try to hide there progress from the public. thats just wrong !!!
One thing : Lot of people want to see a new lock screen much like the Sense 3.0 in htc.
-> My friends suggested you guys borrow the sony tablet s lock screen and add shortcuts. just try. you guys rock.

I kinda liked the sense 3.0 lock screen though.. yeah ,but guess its better to be innovative. make it look better than htc, that s where they suck at,they don’t make polished good looking UI where sony ericsson is good at.

Hmmm…..gud idea. I like the screen lock animation on the tablet s,but add more access control to at least four apps. Maybe around the corners. just my opinion.

Talk about the basic features.
-> The contacts app should include smart dialling and contacts should pop up while we dial on a number. I hate when i have to dial the whole number. Every smart phone and dumb phone i came across except xperia phones had this feature.
->Toggles in the notification bar. Please Sony Ericsson !!!
->TV like shutdown animation. I used to show that off to my htc friends. Please bring it back. The new animation is not near as cool.

Please add smart dialing. I have to use secondary dialing application like go-contacts for that. Also help us arrange contacts in groups for sending group messages and improve the messaging app., look at Handcent or Go-sms for inspiration.

Lot of my friends are ditching their htc phones and planning to jump to Sony Ericsson. Doing stuff like this could really make people change their minds. update your blogs with new features. Make the customers take part in the update process.

I don’t remember who it was but the guy who introduced ice cream sandwich talked a lot about choice and how people love choices, i think you should do the same, think very carfully about the choices you offer to the customers, many people have complained about overcompression in the pictures, then you should give the customers the choise to change it to what they want, use what’s been the whole idea with the free and awesome android!:)
