HD Gaming at Tokyo Game show

A couple of days ago I got into a plane heading for Tokyo Game Show 2010. For all of you who are not attending this amazing event, I thought I should share my impressions after the first 2 days here.

All of the big gaming studios are here to showcase their portfolio of titles, and also to let people experience their upcoming titles. This year I feel that 3D and motion gaming are in focus, but also portable gaming has grown a lot. For instance, at the show the “Hunters Model” PSP was shown with some new physical upgrades designed for long-term play, like larger battery with longer life.

At the event Sony Ericsson showed off 20 Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X10 devices, with 20 different game titles installed. Sony Ericsson also made a presentation, “Gaming is a part of Sony Ericsson”, which attracted a big crowd. People in the audience seemed to understand why we were targeting more of a rich graphical HD-gaming experience on the mobile phones. I also think that Sony Ericsson needs to support the casual games as well, such as many of the games in the Android market.

Me and my colleague Jonas Berg also met with several gaming partners, and we are looking for more of you guys to contact us in terms of Rich Graphical HD-gaming. Today people can find HD-gaming titles for the Xpera™ X10 on PlayNow, and we want this catalogue grow even more in the future. So feel free to help us build the Xperia™ gaming story!

Over and out from Tokyo.

Great article and exciting times ahead… Can I ask what those 20 titles were? And what platform they were running on? ‘Droid 2.1? 2.2? ;)

It would be all that much sweeter if the X10 had multi-touch though…
