Is a shame that a phone so good and with good hardware, just off obsolescence, upgrade to 2.1 the 4Q is to make a very bad update when Google, htc, etc … update to Froyo to quickly and surely 4Q Gingerbread upgraded to Android
Very bad support SonyEricsson, very unhappy

Honestly, I love this phone, so I bought it. But the only problemI don’t like it is the OS. I hope SE should consider to upgrade the phone to 2.2 instead of 2.1. (For the electronic product, I think most buyer always want the updated OS.)
Otherwise, I may consider to sell it and get the N1 or HTC desire (at least I know I can upgrade to 2.2 in this year).

I also would like a vote towards 2.2. Based on reviews it is indeed faster than even 2.1 which would make the X10 one of the speediest smartphones out there. Also, I would really like to know what the final word is on multitouch. First it can, then with a firmware update it can, then it won’t, not even with a firmware, and now it may support it after all. Which is it? I would just like to know the answer whether it be yes or no.

Why make the phone so hard to root?
We are all aware that rooting the phone will void the warranty. It would enable those with the wherewithal to do so (such as developers) to install new versions of android on the phone. Also, You would likely sell more phones this way since it would extend the life of the phone (that is a selling point after all. Especially when you consider the terms of most phone contracts. Generally they are 2 or 3 years). People want a phone that will last to the end of their contract with a carrier. Most will keep their phone to the end even if it is not working 100% or updates have stopped. The fact that their phone is no longer useful by the end of their contract will likely cause them to switch brands after using a phone they couldn’t update for such a long time. Even if their user experience in the beginning was great the present has more impact than the past for most people and they will not look back on what a great device it was but will focus on what an out dated device it now is.
Long story short. Having a rootable device increases the value of your product and the life of your product and thus people’s view of your product near the end of it’s life cycle. It also dampens the blow to your customers when you stop updating their OS because they always know they can do it on their own. And we all know the updates will not flow forever. One year of guaranteed updates while being locked into a 3 year contract makes for angry users a year and a half later.
There are more reasons on top of that as well. For example: The phone’s hardware is great. There is no denying that. It is not subjective. It is measurable, However, when it comes to the UI, there are people who dislike it. There always be some people with different tastes than the designer. By making the phone rootable so that one can install their own version of android you could have potentially gained those people as customers. I happen to like the UI.
Stop letting short sighted people come up with policies for your products and company. In the long run it is better to have a phone that is rootable because it pleases the larger customer base. Those who like your phone as it is and those who like your phone for what it could be. You’re missing on the latter.

I don’t care much if it is 2.1 or 2.2 but I want it now.
I also agree with the previous speaker, let us have root. It will make the phone more valuable without any cost or effort for Sony Ericsson.
