The Camera Add-on API is a new addition to the Sony Add-on SDK that lets you integrate your own camera applications into the camera app on Sony Xperia Z1. Developer World reached out to the developers behind Sphere, an app for shooting visually transcending 360º panoramas, to ask about their experience on how the 20MP camera of Xperia™ Z1 has complemented their app, and helped them gain extra exposure through the Camera Add-on API. Today we kick-off the Stand out from the crowd programme, which is an app search campaign where we’re looking for professional developers with high quality apps that can bring something extra to the Sony experience. As part of the Stand out campaign, we will send out hundreds of devices to selected developers. We will also offer selected developers app promotion in online Sony channels, and at industry tradeshows like CES or Mobile World Congress. Get all the facts in the full post.
We’re excited to announce a new promotion channel for game developers called Xperia exclusive, which will be visible on the majority of all Xperia™ smartphones and tablets. This channel will promote games and game developers who are willing to go the extra mile and create unique in-game content exclusive to Xperia™ smartphones. It could for example be special Xperia™-car, or the option to play as a new character. These games will also include a link from the main menu of the Xperia™ exclusive list (for the best discoverability of new games), and they will be fully optimised for Xperia™ smartphones. Are you a game developer who wants to be part of this? Learn more after the jump.

The other day we came across a rather interesting blog post written by Chris Pruett, creator of the game Replica Island. We thought it was intriguing, not only because of Chris’s conclusions about the need for game developers to support Xperia™ PLAY, but also because it draws an interesting picture of the gaming landscape today and how it may evolve in the near future.
In any case, we thought it was a fascinating analysis that we didn’t want to keep from you. And yes, we are obviously delighted with the great developer support we are getting for the Xperia™ PLAY, and we’d love to get some more… For those of you who are not convinced yet, you might want to have a look at what Chris writes. What do you think?
Read for yourself in the blog post entitled Want to Change the Game Industry? Support the Xperia PLAY. Also, don’t forget to keep an eye the Sony Ericsson Product blog for news about the Xperia™ PLAY and new game titles. We are approaching well over a hundred games supporting the Xperia™ PLAY game controls and we are still counting!
If you have already created an innovative game, go ahead and tell us all about it on the Stand out from the crowd website. We are constantly looking to find the best innovations that deserve VIP treatment!
