Today we are happy to announce our new Sony Add-on SDK, which unifies some of our most innovative APIs for Sony Xperia™ smartphones, tablets and Smart Accessories. With the Sony Add-on SDK, you can develop apps for SmartWatch and Smart Wireless Headset pro, or you can develop Small Apps and IR remote sensor enabled apps. You can also develop apps for the infinite button in the “WALKMAN” music player, which is available on most Sony Xperia™ devices. Yesterday, Sony announced the Smart Connect app, which improves the way your smartphone connects and controls accessories or other devices. Smart Connect (which replaces LiveWare™ Manager) will be available on Google Play starting in mid September, but we thought we would give you developers an introduction to the user experience in advance.  Just like the LiveWare™ manager, Smart Connect lets you set up actions to perform when your Android™ smartphone connects to an accessory or another device. In addition, Smart Connect also lets you condition Events depending on what time it is, which opens possibilities for a new, smooth experience. Read on for more details!

With our Sony SmartWatch developer campaign in full swing, we’d like to remind you that Tuesday, June 26 is the last day to submit SmartWatch apps to Google play in order to get your free Smart Wireless Headset pro, and most of all, the chance of being promoted in Sony’s social media channels. We’re also still sending out SmartWatches to developers submitting their SmartWatch app ideas through our online form. Last week we released a firmware update for the Sony SmartWatch, which includes new UI updates and improved performance. Our search for apps and app ideas that can be extended through the Sony SmartWatch kicked into full gear at last week’s AnDevCon and with great success. We got a great response from those attending the SmartWatch session and lines of developers eager to share their SmartWatch app extension ideas with our judges. Close to 100 SmartWatches were handed out among the 1,200 developers in attendance.

In addition, we will today start to ship the first SmartWatch devices to those developers who have applied online. Read on to learn how you can submit your apps/app ideas and get a free SmartWatch, as well as promotion in Sony online media channels if your app is successful!
