A couple of weeks ago, Sony Ericsson announced the new Xperia™ active – a compact Android smartphone designed for consumers with an active lifestyle. A truly unique feature of the Xperia™ active lies in its pressure sensor for barometric measuring. Developers can use this sensor in apps, by accessing it through the Android sensor API.

The other day we came across a rather interesting blog post written by Chris Pruett, creator of the game Replica Island. We thought it was intriguing, not only because of Chris’s conclusions about the need for game developers to support Xperia™ PLAY, but also because it draws an interesting picture of the gaming landscape today and how it may evolve in the near future.
In any case, we thought it was a fascinating analysis that we didn’t want to keep from you. We have now released version 1.1 of the Extension Development Kit (EDK) from Sony Ericsson, where you can develop app extensions for both the Timecape™ social network app and the Music player in Sony Ericsson Android™ phones.
Creating an extension and publishing your app correctly will allow your app extension to display in either Timescape™ when a user searches for extensions, or in the Music player as an option when a user tap the Infinite key. As a result, this increases visibility and adds extra value to your app!
