Starting with the new Xperia™ neo and Xperia™ pro, it will be possible to develop your own extensions to Sony Ericsson’s Timescape™ application. The Timescape™ application is a central hub for most social activities and events in a Sony Ericsson Android™ phone. And with the new Extension Development Kit (EDK), you will be able to develop your own Timescape™ extensions. For example, you can add new information sources to the applications to expand the social network options. Or find your own unique uses for the EDK and create your own Timescape extensions.
The EDK is an add-on module to the official Android™ Software Development Kit (SDK). The EDK kit comes with an emulator where you can check and test your extensions. Please note that you can only create Timescape™ extensions for Sony Ericsson Android™ Gingerbread phones which have the Timescape™ application preinstalled.
On the link below you can read more about how to download and install the EDK. The EDK comes with extensive documentation to guide you through the process of creating your own Timescape™ extensions.
Check out the links below to learn more and download the EDK!

#2hey I was wondering if anyone could develop a gmail, weather and/or music extention? If you can I have a thread over at xda: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029953
Hope someone can help. It would greatly be appreciated.
I tried but i have no java experience at the moment.

#3Ribbons, I believe SDK Level 9 is needed because there are new features that are only supported on GingerBread OS. The Timescape that was on X10 was a closed ecosystem, while the Timescape on Xperia Play/Neo/Pro is now fully open

#4Why only for API9? Since Timescape is available to API4 this is a reason why the limitation is in place at 9?

#5Bummy,
if you look at the sample code provided in the download from the news article, (http://developer.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/922/661/1297411215/Extension_Development_Docs_and_Tools.zip) you will find sample code containing a simple RSS reader. So yes, you can have RSS feeds into timescape.
It is however not possible to ensure that your extension will be using the topmost tile of timescape – but you can always add current weather information into the tile of your extension once the refresh intent enters your application.

#6can new timescape have RSS feeds?

#8This is awesome, I’ve been waiting for the Timescape SDK to be public, now developers can finally start extending their applications into SonyEricsson’s Timescape App.
Cool!
